Position Overview

The Paralegal will work directly with the legal support staff and attorneys on tasks including research, drafting, fact-finding projects, and assisting clients. They must have at least one year of experience working in an immigration law firm, preferably in family-based or humanitarian immigration. Our caseload is constantly growing, so this individual must have excellent organizational skills, experience drafting and reviewing documents such as cover letters, forms, and declarations, and have a passion to help as many individuals as possible. Candidate must be fluent in both English and Spanish.

 

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Review case forms, documents, and declarations for accuracy, clarity and conformity to firm standards

  • Review immigration FOIA and criminal records for potential inadmissibility issues, and work with attorneys to identify possible options for relief

  • Based on the understanding of multiple case types or forms of relief, identify situations where the client may apply for a more suitable case type

  • Identify legal issues and recommend solutions under the attorney’s guidance

  • Complete the final review of all cases before attorney reviewing ensuring accuracy and completeness prior to submission to the USCIS

  • Analyze and review supplements for the case ensuring they are thoroughly examined and contain the necessary information and exhibits to support potential case approval

  • Complete final review of EAD renewals prior to submitting to attorney for review

  • In the event of a case rejection, carefully examine the reasons and develop a comprehensive action plan to address and resolve issues

  • Address client questions and concerns promptly, and participate in facilitated client support sessions

  • Additional administrative support including rescheduling biometric appointments or corrections of work permits or receipt notices

 

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Possesses excellent bilingual (English & Spanish) interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong knowledge of legal terminology, principles, and procedures

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills 

  • Strong attention to detail, especially when handling and reviewing legal documents

  • Ability to manage multiple case or tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines to ensure client satisfaction

  • Experience in using legal database software 

  • Experience with VAWA, T-Visa, U-Visa, Asylum, Medical DA, I-601, DS-260, DS-160 applications preferred

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or similar programs including Adobe, Dropbox, Salesforce, Document Managements, etc.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) required

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent experience

  • Associates degree in paralegal studies or related field or paralegal certification preferred. Relevant experience as an immigration paralegal in a law firm may be substituted for the degree requirement

  • At least one year’s experience working in an immigration law firm, preferably in family-based or humanitarian immigration

 

Pay

  • $25-$30/hour
