Position Purpose

Staff Attorney – Criminal Law and Research will work closely with our paralegals and other teams that request court records and provide training and guidance on those processes. The ideal candidate will be skilled at creating concise summaries out of large amounts of information and will create thoughtful strategies based on that review. The ideal candidate will be excited to learn more about immigration law, be goal-oriented, and motivated to help our clients obtain documents and stay united with their families. Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

· Conduct legal research to determine whether certain crimes will impact a client’s application or require waivers;

· Prepare legal arguments based on the criminal research to include in responses to USCIS;

· Stay current in changes in immigration law regarding criminal inadmissibility's and identify where a change in internal procedures may be required;

· Assist and train teams on requesting federal and state court records;

· Review and analyze criminal records and background investigations;

· Identify potential immigration solutions that may be possible for clients based on the results of their background investigation

 

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

· Familiarity with criminal law and criminal court records

· Experience working in immigration law a plus, but not required

· Excellent communication and organization skills

· Computer skills (Typing - MS Word and MS Excel, Document Management -

· DropBox, Email - MS Outlook)

 

Minimum Qualifications

· The candidate should have a J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school and be an active member in good standing of a state bar

· Experience conducting legal research

 

Schedule: M-F 9:00am-5:00pm

Salary Range: $60,000.00-$65,000.00
