Position Overview

The RFE Paralegal will work directly with the legal support staff and attorneys on tasks including drafting, fact-finding projects, and revisions for cases submitted to USCIS that require additional evidence. These individuals must have at least one year’s experience in family-based or humanitarian immigration. Due to an ever-growing case load, this role requires strong organizational skills and experience editing coverage letters and other documents. Additionally, we look for team members who have a passion to help as many individuals as possible. Prefer candidates who are bilingual in both English and Spanish.

 

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

·        Perform thorough case reviews of returned documents to identify inconsistencies that require attorney attention

·        Analyze case documents 

·        Review FBI background check requests 

·        Review state police clearance records 

·        Review FOIA records 

·        Coordinate with RFE Document Specialists to communicate with clients, to obtain the documents necessary to present their RFE response

·        Draft cover letters, RFE responses, and other requests to support in filing RFE responses

·        Review immigration applications to ensure accuracy

·        Provide creative solutions to overcome client obstacles

·        Draft legal plans and review final submission packets for attorney review

 

Essential Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

·        Strong knowledge of legal terminology, principles, and procedures

·        Excellent communication and organizational skills 

·        Strong attention to detail, especially when handling legal documents

·        Ability to manage multiple cases or tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines to ensure client satisfaction

·        Experience with VAWA, T-Visa, U-Visa, Asylum, Medical DA, I-601, Adjustment of Status, DS-260, DS-160 applications preferred

·        Computer skills (Proficient with MS Office or similar programs including Adobe, Dropbox, Salesforce, Document Managements, etc.)

 

Minimum Qualifications

·        Highschool diploma or equivalent experience

·        Associates degree in paralegal studies or related field or paralegal certification preferred. Relevant experience as an immigration paralegal in a law firm may be substituted for the degree requirement

·        At least one year’s experience as a paralegal in family-based or humanitarian immigration required

·        Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred
